Every year schools and academies are required to review their admission arrangements. The aim is to ensure that the arrangements continue to be appropriate, and that they comply with all the relevant requirements, particularly the national code of guidance and the policy of the Archdiocese. The Kent Catholic Schools’ Partnership is consulting on proposed changes to the admissions policy for all schools within our Trust to take effect for school admissions for September 2022. That is the proposed changes will affect new applications for entry into any of our schools from 1 September 2022 onwards. In this case the consultation period will run from 27 November 2020 to 8 January 2021.

If your child is already at school but you wish to move them to St Thomas’ please fill in the in year admission form and return it to the school together the school’s Supplementary Information Form and a  copy of your child’s Birth and Baptismal Certificates. St Thomas’ Catholic Primary School Admission Arrangements 2021-2022

Parents and carers applying for places in Years R to 6 in the academic year 2021-2022 are asked to note the following statement in relation to the Mass Attendance oversubscription criterion set out in the school’s admission arrangements:

On the advice of the Education Commission of the Archdiocese of Southwark, the Kent Catholic Schools’ Partnership has agreed the following statement in order to clarify how its faith-based oversubscription criteria will be interpreted while churches are closed or attendance at church is not possible due to Covid-19. This statement has been shared widely with parishes by the Education Commission in order to ensure that determinations made by parish priests concerning regular practice of the faith are being made on a consistent basis.

The suspension of the obligation to attend Sunday Mass was announced on 18th March 2020 by the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. If a parent or carer attended Mass at a particular parish (or parishes) prior to 18th March 2020 then they will be considered to have attended Mass in that parish (or parishes) regularly since that time. This will remain the case until the Sunday obligation is reintroduced by the Bishops.

The application process for children due to start primary school and junior school in September 2021 open on 5th November 2020 and close on 15th January 2021. Please visit the KCC website for further information.

Important – in addition to applying online, parents who wish to name St Thomas’ as one of their preferences need to complete the school’s Supplementary Information Form, which  you can download here  or you can find at the back of the Admissions Policy 2021_2022 This form, together with copies of the child’s birth and if appropriate, Baptismal certificate, should be sent into the school office to arrive no later than 15th January 2021. Please contact your Parish Priest for details on obtaining a Priest Reference.

If you are successful in gaining a place for your child at our school, you will be required to provide proof of address information for you and your child to cover the period when your application was submitted to KCC (and within 5 November 2020 – 15 January 2021). Failure to do so may result in an offer being withdrawn.

Open Events

Due to the current pandemic, the school is offering limited outside tours of the grounds with a senior staff member, so that parents who are unfamiliar with the school can see the site.  These tours are only offered to families who do not currently have a child at the school.  Group sizes will be limited to 6 and adults will be required to wear a mask.  The following dates are currently available:

Appeals Procedure

In accordance with the School Admissions Appeals Code 2012, the school’s appeals timetable is as follows:

Primary Admissions Round – 2020-2021
  • The deadline for lodging an appeal is 14 May 2020 which is within 20 school days from the date of notification that the appellant’s application was unsuccessful (16 April 2020). (Appeals received on this date will be treated as “on time”.)
  • Appeals will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals.
  • Appellants will receive at least 10 school days’ written notice of their appeal hearing;
  • Late Applications, appeals will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged

The above timetable includes reasonable deadlines for appellants and the admissions authority to submit any additional evidence, and for the appeals clerk to send appeal papers to the panel and parties.

In Year Admissions
  • For applications for in-year admissions, appeals will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
  • Appellants will receive at least 10 school days’ written notice of their appeal hearing;
