Spring
Year 6 took part in the STAG theatre Love2Dance show. They performed two songs: The Greatest Show and All my love. They were incredibly proud of themselves, as was I.

Our topic in art this term has been textiles. We have been thinking about all the changes we can make to create designs: ruching, printing, stitching patterns, sewing on buttons and combining different materials. We linked this with our learning about the Windrush in geography to create some lovely Windrush cushions to brighten up our book corner.
Year 6 visited Weald Heights residential home, to talk to the residence about their memories of World War 2. We finished in with the WW2 songs that the children have been learning in music.

Big Legal Lesson: Today in Year 6 we had a visit from one of our Nursery Mums, who is a Criminal Barrister. We learnt all about what laws are and what rights we have. It was very inspiring and has definitely made some of the children want to learn more about how to become a barrister themselves.
This week was Book Week and we held our annual book cafe, along with biscuits, squash and of course jazz music! It was lovely to hear the children talk so passionately about their favourite books and lending them to others to enjoy them also.
This week, in our internet safety lesson, we talked about how if we have mobile phones, we need to be responsible and safe on them. The children made posters to share their advice to others.
In art this term we have been studying digital media. The children have used nature to inspire them to create these pieces by collaging, using filters and layering.
Year 6 went to the Imperial War Museum, as part of our World War II subject in history. The children enjoyed becoming documenters for the day, finding the most important artefacts that can tell us about what life was like during World War II.
At Sevenoaks School we have been working on our art skills: both in printing and clay work. The class have loved working with the pupils at Sevenoaks School, who have been so helpful and encouraging.
Year 6 have been learning all about World War II. We are particularly focussing on what the effects of war were on people in British towns. This week we looked at the Blitz, using our class reader (Whistling in the dark) as our inspiration.

Year 6 have been lucky enough this week to go to be part of Sevenoaks School outreach programme. Half the class were in the art department, learning how to create templates and print using a printing press. The other half were in the computing labs and were given coding challenges set by their year 12 students.
