Autumn

Thanks to our cooks and their parent helpers for a delicious Christmas lunch. We were joined by Father John too.

We designed and made savoury biscuits. 'Rubbing in' the flour and butter was the hardest part, but the results were good!

We visited Nursery Class to read them our 'Defeating the Monster' stories. It was good to share our writing with an audience!

A great day at the British Museum exploring the Anglo-Saxon and Viking collection and the wonderful finds from the ship grave at Sutton Hoo.

We loved our Forest School day cooking over the fire, making willow stars and wands, learning how to saw and drill safely and toasting marshmallows!

We watched the Young Shakespeare Company in a wonderful production of Twelfth Night.

We enjoyed listening to author Lucy Strange who told us about how she came to be a writer, what inspires her and what is special about her latest series of books.

Our focus country for International Day was Iraq. We learned about the country's history and culture, wrote our names in Arabic script and sampled some delicious Iraqi snacks. Finally, we presented our learning passports to the school.

We had a great day of learning at the Science Observatory Centre at Herstmonceux. We investigated forces, including friction, gravity and magnetism. We learned about light, sound and simple machines. We tried robotic arms and found out about life on the International Space Station.

We began our drawing focus this term by sketching sunflowers from life, thinking about creating texture. We then practised skills of background, foreground and perspective.

We found out how The Vine in Sevenoaks got its name - it was once a vineyard! We wrote poems inspired by those ancient grapevines and created a display to illustrate them.

We started this term's dance lessons, creating a sequence including top rock, grapevine, 'shooting the ball' and lifts.
