Despite the inclement weather, the children had an enjoyable first Forest School day at Longspring Wood. It was a perfect way to start our topic on 'Habitats'. We explored the wooded areas and learnt about the creatures that live there. We discovered worms, centipedes, ants, spiders and wood louse in the undergrowth and built a bug hotel with leaves, sticks, stones and moss. Developing our experiences at Forest School, we spent the rest of last week drawing diaramas of an ocean, polar caps, rainforest and savannah habitats. With the glorious weather; we went for a listening walk through the woods and heard some beautiful bird sounds above us.

This week, we have focused on the Polar habitat and learned about the north and the south poles and the different creatures that live in these opposite regions of the world. In addition, we talked about the climate; the ways animals camouflage themselves, and read the book 'Polar bear, polar bear, what do you hear?'

Music session with Mrs Carlton

We learnt to sing and play a melodic shape with falling high to low pitch.
