Summer

DT- The children designed and then created their own lighthouses. We then invited our Year N children to visit our classroom so that we could share our designs and discuss the different parts of our lighthouses.

Art - the children used pencils, pastels, chalk and collage to recreate their own beautiful interpretations of the painting "Irises" by Vincent Van Gogh.

RE - we thought about the important rules that we have been given by God to follow, and how these impact on our evreyday lives

Science - we visited the grassy area to identify and classify things that are alive, dead or have never been alive

Maths - using Dienes to add two-digit and two-digit numbers to solve word problems and number puzzles

Eco Afternoon! In our house groups we spent the afternoon weeding, tidying, planting, cleaning and improving our lovely outdoor areas and to show how we can look after our Common Home

Prayer and Liturgy - the children did a fantastic job of sharing God's important message of spreading love and kindness to all our neighbours

Geography- We focused on how animals adapt to their environment. We looked specifically at polar and arid regions. The children recapped on what they know about these regions around the world in terms of location and climate and then recalled the ways that some animals can adapt to these extreme environments.

Science: making our own sycamore seeds to show how some seeds are dispersed by floating in the wind and falling to the ground

English: our explanation texts about how a plant grows

Art- Using natural objects to complete line drawing using shading techniques.

Computing- Creating a rhythm to match the movement of an animal using Chrome Music Lab.

Art: our nature sculptures, inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy

English: a selection of our explanation texts

Maths: using bucket scales to weigh and then compare the mass of a variety of classroom objects

PE: developing our sprinting technique to play tag, improve our speed between two cones and a relay race!

Science: we are conducting a comparative test to see which conditions a seed needs to grow well.

Maths: using a ruler to measure objects (and each other!) in cm and mm.
